What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy (or 'Physio') is the treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as:

  • massage,
  • heat treatment, and
  • exercise rather than by drugs or surgery.

Physiotherapists use manual therapies, exercise programs and electrotherapy techniques to treat:

  • musculoskeletal conditions (such as sports injuries, back pain or arthritis),
  • neurological conditions (such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries) and
  • cardio-thoracic conditions (such as asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis).

Physios are experts in movement and function, working in partnership with their patients by assisting them to overcome movement disorders which may have been present from birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events.

Physiotherapy is included on all HIF Extras Cover policies. The only difference is that the benefits and annual limits you can claim increase as your level of cover increases. For more information visit our physiotherapy page.
