We know our public hospital system is currently under strain and wait times for treatments are growing rapidly. Providing access to St John Urgent Care extended hours will mean patients can see a GP/doctor after hours and receive care for urgent but non-life threatening injuries and illnesses, without the need to visit the emergency department.

Each Urgent Care centre is staffed by a team of skilled doctors and nurses offering high-quality, immediate health care services, as well as a safe alternate care pathway for unscheduled medical care in Perth.

Available 7-days a week across six locations in the Perth metropolitan area, St John Urgent Care has been designed to help relieve pressure off Perth’s Emergency Departments by offering walk-in treatment for urgent, non-life threatening health issues.

St John Urgent Care can treat the below health concerns:

  • Possible sprains or broken bones
  • Cuts that need stitches or glue
  • Sports injuries
  • Minor eye and ear problems
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Insect and animal bites

In case of an emergency though, we always recommend that you attend an Emergency Department immediately or call Triple Zero (000).

When should I attend an Urgent Care Centre?

When it’s urgent but not an emergency. St John Urgent Care can attend to the following: 

  • Possible sprains or broken bones; 
  • Cuts that need stitches or glue;

  • Minor eye and ear problems; 
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Insect and animal bites

How do I access no-gap Urgent Care consults?

Simply show your HIF member card at an eligible St John Urgent Care centre and we'll cover the cost of your Urgent Care consultation. HIF members are provided a physical card, or your card can be accessed via the HIF member app. We encourage members to make reception aware that they are with HIF.

What if I didn't bring my membership card?

If you download the HIF member app, you’ll always have access to your membership card. If you don't have your membership card handy, you will need to pay the consult fee and send through the details of your consult with a completed claim form to HIF so you can be reimbursed. Please note, Medicare will automatically pay a portion of the consultation charge to you directly and HIF will cover the remaining Gap amount.

When should I attend an Emergency Department or call Triple Zero (000)?

St John Urgent Care is NOT an Emergency Department.

Always dial Triple Zero (000) or go directly to the Emergency Department for serious symptoms such as:

  • Heart attack/chest pains
  • Inability to breathe
  • Collapse/seizure/stroke
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Serious head or neck injury
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Severe stomach pain
  • Severe burns
  • Bleeding in pregnancy
  • Serious mental health problem
  • Poisoning or serious allergic reactions

When does the partnership start?

HIF members will be able to start claiming the cost of their Urgent Care consultation from 1 September 2021.

What’s not covered by HIF at a St John Urgent Care Centre?

HIF covers the out of pocket cost for an urgent care consultation only. Other services are available at Urgent Care Centres, such as GP appointments and dental treatment that HIF does not cover through this partnership. Your Doctor may also recommend you purchase medicine or medical devices associated with your treatment such as crutches, moon boot, etc. These are also not covered by HIF.

Do all Urgent Care Centres charge a consultation fee?

Most centres charge a consultation fee for Urgent Care services which HIF now covers for members.
