Every year, like all Australian health funds, HIF reviews our premiums, and the Minister for Health, Disability and Ageing approves these changes to ensure we can cover the rising costs of quality healthcare for members. The new premium will come into effect on 1 April.
Last year we offered our members the lowest average rate increase of all private health funds across Australia. This year we’ve confirmed another low average increase at 2.60%. Our increase is lower than the 4.41% average increase of Australian private health funds and sits below inflation.1
As a not-for-profit health fund, we prioritise our members’ needs and try to keep premium increases as low as possible, while balancing the need to provide sustainable funding for hospitals and health services which deliver the quality care our members deserve.
Ultimately, we remain focused on providing products, programs and partnerships that help our members to live healthier lives. In January this year, HIF introduced The Choice Network for Dental, which aims to help make visits to the dentist more affordable for members and minimise out-of-pocket expenses. Eligible members can access 100% back on up to two dental check-ups and cleans every year, as well as a range of other preventative dental services by visiting a dentist who is part of the network.2
We continue to invest in new partnerships and the expansion of existing programs that align with the areas of greatest impact for eligible members. We’ve introduced two key partnerships for eligible members over the past year. SkinVision, which is a digital tool that helps members observe and track changes in their skin over time. Mindset Health, which delivers evidence-based digital hypnotherapy programs to support members with chronic conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, back pain, mental health issues, menopausal hot flushes and smoking cessation.
Importantly, we continue to be advocates for preventative health by educating and informing our members, and the broader Australian public, about how to get the most out of their private health. Visit our Health and Sleep hubs to access expert-led resources on important health topics.
