What if that freckle isn’t a freckle?

Living in a UV rich environment, like Australia, means it’s important to pay attention to your skin changes and can help you decide when to seek professional advice. That’s why we are proud to partner with SkinVision, a digital tool that helps members observe and track changes in their skin over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SkinVision?

SkinVision is a digital tool that allows users to take photos of skin spot(s) and keep track of changes over time. In some cases, a panel of dermatologists may review the photo to provide additional guidance. After analysing the skin spot, SkinVision’s dermatologist panel may recommend seeking additional medical assistance, or keep monitoring. Feel free to take multiple pictures to keep track of any changes. Remember that some skin spots can change in a relatively short period of time. If you notice any changes, please seek medical advice.

How can I be sure the SkinVision analysis is reputable?

SkinVision is a digital tool that allows users to take photos of skin spots, keep track of changes over time, and help decide when to seek professional advice. It does not provide a medical diagnosis. In some cases, a panel of certified dermatologists may review the photo to provide additional guidance.

How does SkinVision interact with medical professionals?

SkinVision helps to guide your decision making about your skin, not to replace your doctor. You can easily track every spot with SkinVision’s body map, so you can monitor changes over time and share results with your GP. Members should continue to see their dermatologist at least once a year for a skin cancer screening, and if at all unsure of a mole or lesion you locate with an app, don’t delay seeing a doctor in-person for a professional opinion.

Am I eligible for SkinVision?

If you’re 18 years or older and an active HIF member on Extras, Hospital, or Combined health cover, you are eligible for a 12-month SkinVision subscription until 1 December 2026. Just enter in the promotional code found in the Online Member Centre when creating your SkinVision account within the mobile app.

How do I access SkinVision as an eligible HIF member?

Download the app using your smart device. In the SkinVision app, click ‘Get started’, enter your details and ‘Add promo code’ (you can find this in the Online Member Centre). If you’ve already signed up to the app, you can add the promo code by selecting ‘Account’, then ‘Add promo code’.

How is my data collected?

HIF does not share your data directly with SkinVision. SkinVision will collect relevant information when you sign up. Please visit SkinVision’s privacy terms.
