HIF seeks members to share insights on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI)

HIF News

HIF has opened expressions of interest for current members to join its new AI Advisory Council, providing member perspectives to support HIF's consideration of the governance and responsible use of AI.

The AI Advisory Council will serve as an independent advisory forum, facilitating discussion on AI risks, opportunities and community expectations. Its purpose is to provide external perspectives and feedback to inform HIF's consideration of responsible AI use that remains aligned with member interests and reflects high standards of transparency, accountability and oversight.

HIF Chief Executive Officer Greg Morris said the Council reflected HIF’s commitment to strong governance.

“AI has enormous potential to help organisations work smarter and serve members better, but in private health insurance, trust has to come first,” Mr Morris said. “For HIF, responsible AI adoption means making sure our governance, safeguards and decision-making are mature before use scales across the business.”

Mr Morris said the AI Advisory Council would play an important role in helping HIF test its thinking as AI technology and community expectations continue to evolve.

“We are looking for members who will ask difficult questions, challenge assumptions and bring independent member perspectives that inform our consideration of responsible AI use with the members’ interests at heart. We feel it is critical that member voices alongside experts are represented at the table,” concluded Mr Morris.

Who HIF is looking for

HIF is seeking up to two current members who can bring lived experience, practical perspectives and independent thinking to the responsible adoption of AI. AI expertise is not required, though applicants should be interested in how AI can improve member experiences. Applicants should be comfortable asking questions, challenging assumptions and contributing balanced views on the opportunities, risks and community expectations associated with AI.

AI Advisory Council members will be expected to attend a minimum of two scheduled meetings each year to contribute independent, constructive feedback on member relevant AI topics.
