What does it mean to be a private patient?

A private patient can either be self-funded (that is, pays all the costs except those medical costs covered by Medicare) or have private health insurance. Depending on your circumstances, if you choose to be a private patient you may attend a public hospital or a private hospital or a private day hospital facility.
