Experiencing hard times? Perhaps we can help. With HIF there are two different types of suspensions that HIF members are able to apply for if they are experiencing financial difficulties.
Option 1 – Unemployment Suspension
If you are in receipt of JobSeeker, Youth Allowance or Sickness Benefits from Centrelink and have a current Health Care Card, you can apply to suspend your policy up to a maximum period of 12 continuous months.
A copy of your current Health Care Card must be provided with your application.
If you meet this qualification criteria, please complete our Health Care Card Suspension application form and email this together with a photo of your Health Care Card to hello@hif.com.au
Option 2 – Financial Hardship Suspension:
If you are not in receipt of the above benefits from Centrelink, you may qualify for a temporary suspension of your policy for a maximum period of 12 continuous months on Financial Hardship grounds.
If you would like to submit an application to suspend your membership, please complete our online financial hardship suspension application form.
Please note that the following rules apply to suspensions:
- Suspension under these fund rules is only available to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents.
- Your membership must be paid up to the date you are requesting the suspension to commence.
- You must have held at least three months continuous membership with HIF prior to requesting the suspension to commence.
Important please note: The period between two suspension periods that were approved for the same reason shall be no less than 12 months. Any portion of a waiting period that has not been served will be resumed once the suspension ends. No benefits will be paid for services that occur during the suspension period.
