Psychology is the science of behaviour and mind, embracing all aspects of conscious and unconscious experience as well as thought. Clinical psychologists diagnose and treat mental health, behavioural and emotional disorders such an anxiety, depression and chronic illness.
A benefit for Psychological consultations can be paid if you hold an eligible level of HIF Extras cover. It’s important to note that a 2 month waiting period does apply for psychological consultations (unless you're transferring to HIF within two months of holding an equivalent level of cover, then you won't need to re-serve any waiting periods already served with your previous fund for those services for which you were already covered).
For full details on claimable benefits, please visit our Extras Cover Table.
Important please note:
A Benefit is paid only if the Psychologist is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society or the Association of Counselling Psychologists.
The Health Care Provider must also be Registered with HIF and be in a Private Practice.
A maximum of 2 treatment sessions will be paid on the same date, with a minimum of 2 hours between sessions.
Telehealth consultations must be performed in accordance with the Psychologists peak body association’s guidelines for telehealth consultations.
A benefit is not paid on counselling sessions or psychiatrist consultations.
A benefit is not paid when the consultation has been subsidised by Medicare (either in full or in part).
