Does HIF cover OrthoK (Orthokeratology) lenses?

Yes absolutely! OrthoK (Orthokeratology) lenses (item numbers 871 and 872) are included under Optical Benefits on eligible Extras Cover policies.

Orthokeratology (ortho-k) is the fitting of specially designed contact lenses that you wear overnight. While you sleep, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye (cornea) so you can see clearly the following day after you remove the lenses.

How much is covered?

HIF will cover up to 100% of the charge up to your annual optical limit (if the charge is lower than the annual limit then HIF will pay 100% of the charge raised). Benefits are paid on items 871 and 872 and should be carried out by a registered optometrist or optical provider, approved by HIF.

Are there any waiting periods?

It’s important to note that a 2-month waiting period does apply for optical benefits (unless you're transferring to HIF after two months of holding an equivalent level of cover, then you won't need to re-serve any waiting periods already served with your previous fund for those services for which you were already covered).
